Bert is the grandfather of Teresa Keaton and second husband of Micheline.

Day 1 of the outbreak, Bert is in the parking lot of Atlanta Midtown Hospital, preparing to take the lab rats in when he is approached by students from a nearby school. He then calls his granddaughter, Teresa Keaton and tells her that he won't be able to make her grandmother lunch because he's being kept at the hospital. He is later seen showing the rats to a couple of the students that had wandered off.
