H7N2 is a virus featured in Containment.
Information[]
H7N2, also known as Influenza A with Hemagglutinin Type 7 Neuraminidase Type 2, is a negative-sense, single-stranded, segmented RNA virus. It was known as an avian Influenza and could not previously be transmitted between humans, however, this particular strain has been manipulated to give it higher pathogenicity and to make it capable of human to human transmission.
The virus is extremely pathogenic, highly contagious and fatal in 100% of its victims.
Symptoms[]
Regular virus[]
The symptoms appear anywhere from 16 to 48 hours after infection. Dr Cannerts noted that the symptoms of Sayid Nassir have appeared in the following order:
- Pharyngitis, headaches and swollen lymph nodes
- Acute encephalopathy, severe hepatic injury
- Rabid symptoms (however not all patients seem to exhibit this aspect)
- Extreme hemoptysis
- Seizures
- Death
- Internal bleeding which causes coughing up blood and more,
Thomas strain[]
A special strain of the virus originally found in the blood of asymptomatic carrier, Thomas Graham. This strain has a longer incubation period and time before death; the victims also do not suffer from Extreme Hemoptysis, which usually always occurs before death in the original virus.
